Why Northway Equine Sportsmassage?

I have been around horses most of my adult life – owning my own for the 34 years.  I have ridden many different breeds of horses, and have found that each one has it’s own special qualities.  Watching horses move, no matter what discipline they are in, is an amazing thing.  They are incredibly versatile and such a gift to us.  Helping them have freedom of movement, be relaxed and happy in their work is my goal.  That is what started me on this journey.

The Wilson Meagher Method of Equine Sportsmassage is a scientifically researched method providing evidence that the method increases range of motion, as well as increases muscle and muscle/tendon tissue.  The results of both increased range of motion and muscle tissue is manifested in increased performance and general well being.  In the words of Jack Meagher, a pioneer in the field of massage therapy, and one of the creators of this method, the three most important factors for an athlete are “to be as good as possible, to be as safe as possible, and to last as long as possible.”  It is my job to apply the sportsmassage techniques I have learned to help your horse achieve this.

My instructor in learning these techniques was Jo-Ann Wilson, the co-founder of this method.  She has an extensive clinical practice in both human and equine athletes, in addition to engaging in research and publishing articles.  She is currently the practitioner assisting the United States Eventing Team, and most recently accompanied them to the Olympics in Rio.
